The Comparison of Adjectives in Russian and English Languages

TITLE: The Comparison of Adjectives in Russian and English Languages AUTHOR: Marika Zemánková DEPARTMENT: Department of Russian studies and language teaching methodology SUPERVISOR: PhDr. Lenka Havelková, Ph.D. ABSTRACT: This bachelor thesis deals with the comparison of adjectives in Russian and English languages. Theoretical part provides characteristics of this part of speech and highlights some differences between Russian and English. Language typology clarifies particularly features which are typical for synthetic and analytical languages. The second chapter is concerned with an overview of possible classifications of adjectives where these classifications are organized according to syntactical, morphological and semantic point of view. Practical part is devoted to the comparison itself. To attain clear arrangement, rules for the creation of comparative and superlative adjectival forms are described for each language separately. The main facts about comparison in both languages are then compared in the last chapter of the bachelor thesis.
